St Pierre/Shields Set for UFC 129 in Toronto

Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will headline UFC 129, the UFC's debut in Toronto.

UFC president Dana White confirmed to The Canadian Press that the 29-year-old from Montreal will defend his 170-pound title against Jake Shields at the Rogers Centre on April 30.

St-Pierre (21-2) last fought at UFC 123 in Montreal on Dec. 11, when he won a unanimous decision over Josh Koscheck.

Shields (26-4-1) is coming off a split decision win over Martin (The Hitman) Kampmann at UFC 121 on Oct. 23.

The UFC had been looking at having heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez meet Brazilian banger Junior Dos Santos in Toronto but Velasquez has been sidelined by a torn rotator cuff.

While White confirmed GSP-Shields, bout agreements have yet to be signed, another source said. But that appears the next step.

In other words, GSP is set to beat Shields in Toronto

Shields is a real talent, but I'm not sure that he's ready for the level of competition that GSP brings into the cage. I would love it if he won though. He's a pretty sensational grappler.

I'll need to see that he can go more than 2 rounds without gassing before I give him any shot against GSP.

He's gone the distance many times. You've not seen him outside the UFC?

I have, but of late, they were at MW. He did not look good with the weight cut and he's going to have to go through that cut again. If he was competing at MW, I wouldn't question his gas tank at all, but he did not look good at all at WW last time.

I think he'll be prepared for at least 3 rounds. Honestly, he probably should have had another fight before this one.

UFC is running out of people to let GSP murder though

I'm waiting to see him fight Andy! He hasn't finished his last three guys. He may have completely outclassed them, but he's not finishing them.

Just means I get to enjoy 25 minutes of GSP rather than 3

I don't know, I'm a little mixed about finishing guys. Yeah those few seconds are exciting, but as long as you're not just laying on top of the guy, I don't see it being an issue. GSP has one of the most active and exciting ground games, so despite him being on top of his opponent for like 80% of the fight and not finishing, I still thoroughly enjoy watching him.

I saw Jake Shields first fight for UFC and he didn't as good as he did when he fought Dan Henderson. I don't think he deserved a title shot so soon but I'm sure its gona be a epic fight because Shields is a good fighter and GSP is just a savage.
