Kevin Kay, president of Spike TV, recently spoke on Impact Wrestling going on the road, and the possibility of doing it more often:
“It was a mutual (Spike & TNA) decision. Dixie and Eric came in and pushed for it. I always wanted to do it. It’s great to have a home, but you don’t get the level of excitement as you do on the road. It adds a another level. We’re continuing discussions.”
“We haven’t seen a (ratings) bump, but you can’t judge ratings week-to-week, some weeks things happen like competition, even though TNA holds up well against sports. As we can afford to continue it or increase it, it’s a financial decision. It adds a lot of excitement and vibrancy to the show.”
It's believed that Eric Bischoff has been instrumental in getting Impact out of Universal Studios, Orlando and in to different arenas around the country. He believes the show looks better on TV when it's in a bigger venue than The Impact Zone. Sources close to Bischoff say he doesn't like the "small" look of the Impact Zone on TV, and that the show will never be taken as serious competition to WWE if it looks "small." As previously reported, Spike TV likes to deal almost exclusively with Bischoff, not Dixie Carter, regarding TNA-related issues.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that from now on TNA will tape Impact in Orlando the night after pay-per-views, and then the tapings prior to the next PPV will be on the road. However, as of right now, no new Impact taping dates outside of Orlando have been announced.
